I have been clearing my new lottie and am now almost ready to think about putting something in.
The advice I want is, what is best to put in this time of year ?
Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance

There's not much you can sow from seed until the autumn, although late carrots should be OK, and beetroots. There are plenty of salads that have a short time to harvest, of course.

Otherwise it'll be plants.  These guys have a good selection: www.vegetableplantsdirect.co.uk   We've been buying from them for a couple of years, and they are very good.

Buying plants would be safer but isn't growing your own is more satisfying.  As well as beetroot and carrots (try a fast variety like Early Nantes), I'm pretty sure the following could be also grown from seed now (and someone will soon correct me if I'm wrong  :)  ):

French beans (dwarf ones produce faster), cut and come again lettuces and rocket, perpetual spinach and chard,  cabbages that can be succession sown like Greyhound (possibly) and Hispi, All Year Round cauliflower, pak choi (if you have a cool spot otherwise it will bolt) and Cavolo Nero might be ok (hope so, I've only just sown it myself). Some will need an eye kept on them so that if they start to bolt you can harvest the leaves straight away.

I've heard you can sow spring crop brassica like PSB and Sprouts into pots then hold them back until planting at the end of the summer but I need advice on this.

Perhaps hedge your bets by doing a bit of both?

you can plant in my opinion and ive been doing this now for 26 years.

Carrots, autumn kingsplant in a trench 1" deep x 8" wide saves thinning out

buy some leek sets get them in.
beetroot.
winter savoy cabage can go in now.
Winter cauli.
swede.
salads,(lettuce,raddish, spring onion etc.
runner beans seed straight in the ground.
french bean.
you may be lucky with brussel plants from seed,(keep well waterd & they will catch up.
parsnip(i planted some last week(for a late winter/earley spring crop, when planting i did a small trench 1" deep x 8" wide then soak the bottom of the trench sow the seed soak again then fill this will get them moving very quickly.
chard,
buy a couple of bags of maris piper spuds from the supermarket , plant now harvest mid november.

sown in moduls for planting out when theres room
winter cabbage, jul,aug,sept spring greens
intend to sow when 1st potatoes are out more beetroot carrot and more salad crops
this is a busy month get going

I forgot to sow leeks last year so got some seedlings from here....

I trawled round various websites and made a list of things to sow now - or in my case re-sow (stifled sob!):

Beans - Broad, French and Runner
Beetroot
Carrots
Cauliflowers
Chicory
Courgette
Cucumber
Endive
Kohlrabi
lettuce Marrows
Peas - maincrop
radish
Squash
Swedes
Sweetcorn
Turnips

Sow French, broad and runner beans, peas, squash, sweetcorn, and outdoor cucumbers directly into prepared beds outside.

Continue with successional sowing of salad crops, beetroot, Chinese cabbage, pak choi and radish, to ensure an even supply over the season.

Courgettes, marrows and pumpkins can still be sown outdoors in early June.

Witloof chicory can be sown this month, to be ready for forcing next winter (when other salads are scarce).

You can still sow turnips now for an autumn crop, as they are best lifted while still young and sweet.
