I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's stroke Borlotti.

What you must know about strokes is that they are an awful blow - but there is always the potential for the recovery of a patient to be far more than you expect ... my old playgroup teacher Mrs. Chapman had a stroke - and that was my first experience of a stroke in my life ... she got better and better with all kinds of function as her brain mended itself in the most unpredictable ways for many years until she died of old age in almost the same form she was in before the stroke.

Since then several people I know have had strokes of different degrees - and it has just re-affirmed to me what a wonderful thing the human brain is ... a stroke is a major setback to the brain - but in every case there has been a significant improvement from the immediate post-stroke symptoms.  The brain in every case has strained to get somewhere close to where it was before.  If I didn't believe in science as I do - it could easily lead me to believe in magic!

I hope that your friend has a similar experience to the ones I have seen.

One step at a time, I say.  So pleased she can have baby food.  Thanks for all your kind wishes.  Hopefully we will have a laugh and a joke tomorrow, I don't even mind if she swears at me, shows she is getting better.

Brilliant news, small steps but, as you say, shows she's progressing. Hope you can have a laugh with her, it's the best medicine  :happy7:

Give her all our best B, North mid had a bad reputation years ago and Chase farm was the way to go, now they have completely changed places, keep her put I say.   :happy7:
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Don't worry, from what I learned when my OH had his heart attack, whilst the general side of hospitals can be a bit crummy, most specialist units are brilliant, well staffed by professional and caring people.  Anyway hope you get a good mouthful from your friend and don't forget to give her all our best wishes.

I am so sorry to read about your friend Borlotti and hope she continues to improve.  She is lucky to have such a caring friend and maybe one day she will be able to go for a walk with you again.

The fact that she can now say a few words is a really good sign so here's hoping she makes a full recovery.

Good visit tonight. I asked her my name and she said Geraldine, and laughed, she is so fed up with people asking her questions.   After that she called me Sandra (which is my name), and wants me to visit again tomorrow, with John.  Her speech is getting better, although difficult to understand, but she did tell me to put the toffee yogurt (which she hates/and didn't eat) in my bag, and give to grandad (whatever).  She wants a party in her room, with gin, tonic and lime/lemon, and we couldn't get the music to work, but she remembered her phone number and said ring up and get her daughter to fix it, but I sorted it again with the Sound of Music playing, but unfortunately she can't turn it off.  Maybe I should be a nurse, but at least I understand her (some/most of the time) and we did have a good giggle.

Glad she is improving and travel for her family must be easier.
