wood ash

hi everyone! I have a substantial amount of wood ash I still haven't cleared from my fireplace  ::)  instead of putting it in my compost bin, I'm wondering if I could work it into my two raised beds to improve the soil where I will be planting out my runner beans?  thanks!  :)

thanks Tim - what about adding in the charcoal ash from the BBQ as well, or am I being a chancer now?  ;D
