Hello petals,
Anyone grown these golf ball-size courgettes?
I got them because they are compact and am really hoping I'll be able to train them up canes or a curly pole rather than let them sprawl out because my veggie patch is a bit titchy.
Anyone know if that's poss?  ::)

not really as this variety is a bush one anyway.  It will grow to a diameter of about 3 feet and that's it.

Just beware - the fruits get very big very fast - I found when I grew them that I was getting a lot fewer usable ones than the normal courgettes. They stuff well thank goodness, because when they do get a little too large,  the seeds become inedible.

Pro rata, you get more usable courgette from a conventional one.

Just keep an eye on them!

I am growing some of these and some conventional courgettes (I think as the cat knocked my try caddy off two days after plating and my courgettes, marrows and pumpkins got a bit mixed up so I do not know what germinated and what didn't)  The round ones only went in a couple of days and if one or two get a bit big, I will just have a marrow that is a wierd shape for getting in the oven.

I grew them last year. They had some longish branches but I doubt long enough to train up a pole but it wouldn't hurt to try, just tie them up as they grow.

Thanks everyone,
Glad to know they're a bush variety as I don't have enough room for all this trailing business!  :-\
Have tied a couple on to canes so will report back if it's a success.
:D ;)

I am also growing these (magazine freebie!)

Got them in a 24 inch pot and are just growing their second jagged leaves - hopefully they will come out ok
Keep getting worried that the stuff I grow will taste nasty - or turn out poisonous!

Hiya Shaolin,
Good luck with yours!
Mine were free with that magazine too, but don't want to mention its name as it's a seriously moot point on this website I saw the other day!!  ;D ;)
