You have to say well done top one of our local town councils. 20 new allotment plots up for grabs. They will be just right for starters, but 4m x 6m, no water, and really hard rocky ground, raised beds will be the order of the day. £100 per year which is about £4 a square metre. In their favour they are on the southern coast which is not far from the Botanical Gardens that have grown outdoor bananas in a hot summer.

Well definitely a good thing, but they are staggeringly expensive. Doesn't it work out at roughly £100 per pole? That's frightening.

The plots on my field are great value for money. They cost so little I can hardly remember the current cost. I seem to recall about £4 for each pole.  But there is a 50% discount if you are retired. Good soil, crime and vandalism very rare.  I feel really really lucky. I'm not sure I could find £1,250 each season to rent my current 12.5 pole plot.
Not mad, just out to mulch!

Blimey - that's eye watering.
OH has just got a lovely plot in South London. £65 for around 7.5 pole and includes water.  I pay £5 per pole.
Sounds like your council is trying make money!
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

When I renewed mine last September I paid £60 for a plot 81 sq metres which is just over 3 poles I believe - it is 74p per sq.m.

I am very lucky my plot cost £26 per year including water and grass cutting.
