I have grown Uchiki Kuri Squash for the first time this year, but they have only produced one fruit per plant. They are growing in the same bed as the Butternut squash, had the same treatment, yet the Butternuts are a much more vigorous plant with several fruits on each plant.
How many fruits should I realistically expect from each Uchiki Kuri Squash plant?

I have three on my one plant - they won't be harvested until the stalks look dry and streaky. There are also a lot of various varieties of butternuts becoming more visible as the foliage begins to die back. The Barbara are huge, much larger than the Hunter and the Waltham varieties.

Thanks for the info,We will wait until we do a taste test to see if they go on the list for next year.
My Butternuts never seem to get very big whichever variety I grow, but we do get several per plant which is ideal as each one is the right size for a meal and there is only two of us to eat them.
The Sweet dumplings are very slow this year, they have only just set the first fruits. Lets hope we have a mild autumn so they may just make it.

First time I've grown Uchiki Kuri this year. One plant took off and grew very large and has produced 5 good sized ripe fruits, plus another 2 small ones which are growing well and should ripen if the weather stays warm. The other plants were slower to get going, haven't got as large and might produce 1 or 2 fruits each. I also grew Butternut 'Hunter' which produced about 5 quite small fruits on each plant, plus Acorn 'Honey Bear' which has 3 fruits on 1 plant. The number of fruits is a bit misleading as the Uchiki Kuri ones are far bigger than the Butternuts, and the plant itself is much larger and more vigorous. I'd like to grow all these again next year, depending on how they are for eating. The seeds were all from DT Brown.

My two Uchiki Kuri are bearing about six fruits each. However not only are the plants smaller than usual but the fruits are too which I put down to the dry summer.

Also called onion squash I grow them every year along with Jumbo Pink banana squash (our favourite) that have cropped well and this years experimental variety Musquee de Provence that also has been a success with perhaps seven huge cheese wheels from two plants. :happy7:
