Yes that works well.  Also works with onion, especially spring onion. 

I am currently experimenting with another way of propagating celery and that is from the tiny plants that spring up when the main plant is getting ready to go to seed and sometimes before that on the base/outside of the main plant.  I also noticed that my celeriac has these tiny plantlets.  It is very easy to propagate celery from these plantlets (done several times now) and I hope that I will get full-sized celeriac roots from the plantlets as well, but don't know yet as it is my first try.

Thanks galina I will give that a try.  I managed lots of celery this year.  It has turned out rather too stringy.  But makes good soup.
