Had the first few rather small stump-rooted carrots tonight as part of the tempura I had for tea... they're "Atlas", and were lovely....  it's a good way to prepare them, dipped in batter and fried fast and hot for not very long... I sowed them back in February in a trough that sat in the big greenhouse propagator for wuite a while, then in the greenhouse when tender stuff needed the prop adn finally they moved outside a couple of weeks ago..... have found that growing both radishes adn carrots in troughs and deep "rose" pots to be an excellent way of getting them going, start in the greenhouse, germination rates are really good and the taste of the homegrown ones over shop-bought is remarkable... especially with radishes, they lose so much of their sweetness
