I have some courgette plants growing that have enormous seed leaves and a very long stem which is qite sturdy . the plants are just about to put out there first true leaves - when I pot the on can I burry this long stem as you do with tomatoes or is this likely to rot away? I am worried that these stems will not support the weight of new growth. I might add they are not floppy of weak just really big strong growth they are Nimba, Di Nizza and Pepo varieties none of which I have grown before.

thanks Nora

Courgette aren't as fickle as cucumbers for getting neck rot, so can be planted a bit deeper. Although it doesn't sound from your description that they are particularly drawn and leggy and the main stem will toughen up as the plant grows to support the growth. Nice selection  :happy7:

I planted 5 varieties and di Nizza did the same for me. I potted them up quite dep and it doesn't seem to have done any harm.
