Allotments 4 All

I have a strawberry planter which has never been very good.  I want to take the soil out and redo it.  What soil mixture should I use?  I have coir that I can use.

I want to do this when it stops raining and I am off work which seems to never be the same time in London as we seem to have permanent rain now!

Watering is difficult in planters and I find coir quite dry. If it was me, I'd use a soil mix, with a pierced drainpipe all the way down the middle so the water and feed could get to all the plants

What soil mix would you use?  It does have a plastic tube to provide watering.

depends if you're mixing your own. Could mix some coir i with garden soil or buy a john innes mix, I'd mix some blood, fish and bone or other feed in, give them a good start off

I would suggest that if you use the 'pieced water hose' (which I ended up doing) consider sealing the bottom of the hose in some way otherwise the water just runs straight through and out the bottom.
I have to say even with all this effort I ended up parting company with my strawberry planter as even just using grow bags I would get much better results - could just be me of course!
