I'm sorry if this sounds like a blonde question BUT do white currants turn red. I bought a white currant from Suttons I think, I've just been down & there are some red berries on it. I suspect & hope they've sent the wrong one. It's supposed to be Blanca.

White currents should ripen white not red. Sounds like they've shipped the wrong one. I've has a similar experience from a garden centre!
No fruit tree knowingly left un-tried. http://abseeds.blogspot.com/

Thank you ajb. OH will not be pleased as he doesn't like red currants :BangHead:.

I've got the opposite problem.  It's the first year I've had fruit off my supposed red currant 'Jonkheer van Tets' but they have turned out to be white!  Bought it from Wilkinsons and seeing as Wilkinsons is nothing but a tat shop I'm not suprised really.  It's a good job the fruit is rather nice!  :glasses9:  :tongue3:

Mine was Fothergills not Suttons so I shall be getting in touch with them.

My white currants are white but turn into red jam or jelly when cooked.

Digeroo

My white currants seem to be flushed red on one side.

We bought a red currant in an aldi pack which turned out pink but I was quite happy, pink berries are expensive to buy  :toothy10:  Hope you get it sorted, Janet. At least they're good for setting jam  :happy7:

I bought two pink currant plants online last year and am waiting for them to ripen so I can see if they are the right ones! I will have a lot of them if they are wrong....all of the 12 cuttings I took from the parent plants are now little bushes and planted out as cordens......!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I rang Fothergills & they are sending a replacement & if that one's wrong to get back in touch. We shall see.

Oh good but it's a shame you will have to wait another year to find out! I had the same ofoblem with a David Austin moss rose, it was supposed to be white but bloomed a bright pink the next year, they sent a replacement .. Which also bloomed pink the following year! I gave up after that....  :BangHead:
