My daughter bought a pair of trouses and wanted them taking up "yesterday".  I advised that she take them up and fix them with that iron on hemming strip.   Duly done she then ripped the hems down as she wanted them altering.  Unfortunately the sticky hemming stuff will not come off.   Tried steaming it off but that didn't work.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove it?  Thanks.

I would try some white sprit...little bit on cotton bud at first and gently touching small glued area so that the fabric don't soak and get marked or even colour getting changed. You'll soon see if the WS has any effect and if you can treat larger are without any damage to the fabric.
If it does work...I would then take kitchen washing up sponge and use that instead of cotton bud.

White spirit will leave a nasty smell, use cheap aftershave which is basically industrial alcohol. You will smell like an over fifties divorcee on a speed dating walk but it will soon  wear off.

Looks like acetone (nail polish remover) is the way to go. Although you can also buy solvants that remove glue, chewing gum etc, I imagine that would also do the trick.

Thank you for all your advice.  Next time something needs taking up I'LL do it - its a lot less hassle.
