Hi All  :toothy10:

Like the new smilies :D

I have got loads of tiny garlic cloves from some garlic that grew this year from a previous years garlic bulb that I did not lift. What I was thinking of doing was planting them back in as individual cloves for garlic next year. Is it advisable to replant tiny cloves? Will they prodice garlic bulbs?

Thanks.

Yes..they will grow and should make something bigger..but it all depends how 'tiny'. Really teeny weeny starter cloves only manage to make one large 'clove' when they are lifted up next year...meaning, the clove won't devide just to grow bit larger and make single round bulb. Those you can then either eat or plant again following autumn to lift them up again following summer, but then they should have made it into 'normal' size bulb with individual cloves inside.
Basically those small cloves just take one extra year to reach proper size.

One thought is to save them to plant out in spring so that they don't stratify in the winter... that way they'll make a single clove as big as the (probably rather small) head they would otherwise form...You can also pull them earlier for green garlic secure in the knowledge that you're not ripping your maincrop out... they can plant closer too, I'd look at 2-3" between and probably plant a quadruple row across a foot of space...

Plant them and use them as green garlic next year.
