Perhaps she could consider getting a part time job to raise the money for living expenses which is what everyone else I know in the same position has to do?!

I agree.   If she already has a good qualification, find a job with good money and just save - the same as what I did when I wanted to do a 2 year course at college as a mature student.   I know what my Dad would call it if he was still alive.

Well, it IS begging but maybe in a good cause. Medical type degrees are extremely demanding time wise so I understand that she finds it hard to work on the side.
