With one thing and another I haven't been able to grow many peas this year. But I'm growing a couple of varieties of F1 peas, Salmon Flowered x Alderman F1 and Salmon Flowered x Doug Bray of Grimsby F1, boy are they tall growing!!!!!!

Both have two tone pink flowers and most pods are in pairs averaging 6 peas per pod. In my opinion not the best tasting raw pea, sort of a sweeter Salmon flowered but also with a slight back taste of a purple podded variety.

Hopefully I'll be able to save some seed, I'm not sure how they will segregate next year but it should be interesting. It would be fantastic to find a crown type growing, any colour of flower but with a better flavour!

How nice it would be to get something that would please the eye and mouth same time..but it always seem to be just one or other.. ::)..luckily tummy is easy to please ;D
Did you start crossing those varieties last summer?
I've been growing Mr Big peas this year in more of quantity than before...and the pod certainly are HUGE. I was thinking other day that they could be improved so that the pods would fill up rather than have big gaps between each pea. That propably would mean that each pea would have to be either size of the gooseberry or they would have to double of amount in the pods.. ::)..and they would still have to stay sweet.. ::)  Not asking much, am I...fancy a another project?.. ;D..I would love to grow some 'MR Enormous' peas.. ;D

What about crossing Mr Big with something like Irish Preans or Hugh's Huge?

Maybe try crossing them with Latvian Xmas peas they are huge, but not very good on the taste front.  They are meant for soup on Xmas Eve.   Very pretty on the flower front, and very hardy, make a great wind break against North West Wind.  They produce 6 peas in the pod but only 4 fatten up.

Hmm...I suspect crossing with latvian peas have 'danger' of turning very sweet tasting pea into more mealy cooking pea 'flavour'.. :-\

If anything it would need to be crossed something 'sweet'...and I think Skansk Margart would be perfect for that purpose..it makes fat pods where peas fill the pods so that they are really 'stuffed' and the peas are still nice for fresh eating.
I've got Hugh's Huge and Irish Preans..though neither one I have tasted yet..I grew them to get more seeds and not even a single pea got into my mouth.
I shouldn't  said nothing about 'Mr Enormous' peas.. :-X...I can feel trial coming on next year.. ;D
First I have to learn about pea 'tickling'..now where did I see it on net..?

Lol, you should have tried a couple  ;D both have lovely large seeds which is partly why I thought they might be good in your cross  :)
