Not neccessary but a lot of websites use it - youtube, iPlayer etc..
I wouldn't bother removing it unless you think it is causing issues..

Your problem might be this. When you use an uninstaller that's built into a program it doesn't remove everything. When you then reinstall, the installer recognises the old files and registry keys and doesn't overwrite them. As I understand it this is to speed things up. The problem comes if a file or registry key is damaged. You're left with the same problem over and over no matter how much you reinstall.

Personally, I'd use Revo Uninstaller to completely remove flash player and reinstall it. Revo removes everything left behind by the built in uninstaller.

Download the freeware version. We wouldn't want to pay would we?  ;D

Run it and you'll get a representation of the programs on your system. Find flash player and click-click on it.

Run through the crap clicking yes until you get to a screen where it asks you what leftover registry keys you want to delete. I cannot stress this enough. tick only the bold boxes. Sometimes you might have to expand (click on the plusses) a few times to find a bolded entry. Find them all, but don't tick anything that's not bolded. When your satisfied you've got them all and not clicked anything you will regret later click OK or whatever it is to go to the next screen.

Here you'll be asked what leftover folders you want to remove. I normally just tick all but you might want to take a wee look through yourself. If nothing else to appreciate the staggering amount of garbage some programs leave behind. When happy, click to go on.

You will now have completely eradicated every trace of flashplayer. Simply download and install the latest version, being careful to avoid the macafee crapware. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I know that might sound a bit complicated, especially when the dreaded "registry" word crops up, but it's really very easy, you just tick the bolded entries.

And did I mention, only tick the bolded registry entries?  ;D

There's an issue with Flash Player at the moment that gives an error box periodically.  I forget what the error says, but if you Google it you'll find a page on the Adobe forum that tells you how to address it.  They're requesting that people help them to resolve the issue by e-mailing them rather than doing the fix, if you're patient, though!
