We're on our second full smith period of the year in Maidstone. I have a big tomato breeding grow out going on this year, so I am hoping beyond hope that things dry out a bit soon.

....so is there anything you can do to protect tomatoes and potatoes from blight  ? Would covering them with fleece help ?  Is blight on potatoes the same as blight on tomatoes ?
Trespassers will be composted !

Only way to protect against blight is chemical fungicide sprays. If your potatoes haven't come through yet..there is not worry as such..they need to have their greenery up to catch the blight spores. As it is so early in the season..I suspect once we get over this 'spring weather and summer comes..soon ;)..this early blight will dissappear too.

Yes..blight is 'same' and affect both potatoes and tomatoes.

I've never had problem with blight this early on the season..it is usually late summer problem.
But there is two different types of blight...early and late..and I suspect the warning (haven't checked the 'spud' site) is for the early type blight that usually is not as severe as the late type.
