I'd like to swap some seeds (some home collected & some commercial) but I'm not sure quite how it works on the forum.

What's an appropriate quantity of seed to swap with someone? An ounce?

Is there a '101' on this?

Thanks

Is there something in particular you are looking for PG?

I think you just ask and offer what you can in return.

These days, you can find a lot of seeds on ebay, sold for a pittance really considering they mail them to you next day in a new jiffy bag.

But where's the fun in that eh?

Well..to start with you need to mention what seeds are you after..and what have you got to offer for return.
Easy as that..as for amounts..what ever you or the other person is willing to part with. With very small amounts is good to mention that you only have 'x amount' available.
With big seeds like peas and peas 10 seeds is enought to give that other person a chance to grow enough plants for future seed saving and hopefully have a enough for taster of the veg as well. Generally 'usefull' amount is fine.
Other wise it all varies.
It is nice thing to also mention if your seeds are getting bit past their best sowing date..and to compensate you might want to give bit more than just a 'pinch' . It is good practice to offer fresh enough seeds for sowing...of course there is a chance that mistakes happen with sowing and germinations fails, but at least you give best possible starting point with viable seeds.
As long as you are open about the quantity and quality of the seeds with person who you are going to swap with..that is what matters. Mentioning things like..'part used packet....sow by date...the year when seeds were saved (in case of self saved seeds).
I hope this will help..  ;D Sooo...where do we start, what are you looking for? ;) :D

I generally reckon ten or more for peas, perhaps half that for beans or squash, more for smaller seeds. A lot depends on how many I have, and what the demand is, but enough to raise a few plants and save seed.
