I listened to GQT today and I heard you can use a hosepipe if you have a blue dissabled badge.  Can anyone confirm this?   Would it apply to allotments?  I think not.

South East Water have published in our local newspaper all the facts about what we can and can't do. Over 65s and blue badge holders can use hoses, but only to water plants (not fill swimming pools, wash cars etc). I have heard that it is the only water company to say this, but I dont know for sure. I don't myself see what difference it makes if the plants are on allotments.

I've seen suggestions that pensioners should hire themselves out to water the gardens of the under 65s..... ::)

Thames water also say those with servere mobility problems with a blue badge can water their plants/gardens with a hose.

Artichoke, your profile does not say where you are, where about are you?

South East Water is a clue.....Robertsbridge and Battle, in fact.

Ada, you're S.B'ham - Seven Trent, like me? They say that we don't have a ban in force, although the situation is always under review. You can go to their website and read it for yourself if you want.

Hope this helps.

I wonder whether it is allowed to use a hose to fill a water butt.  Presume this is classed as drawing water for domestic use.  Though can I plumb in a tap into the veg patch so I do not have to carry water so far.   In 1976 we had a drought I did use a hose to empty the bath out of the window.  The pressure is very low so it takes a long time.

Seems we are allowed to use a trickle feed system.  As always the richer you are the more exemptions.
For those who are worried I grew the best begonias ever in 1976 solely on dirty washing up water.  (Fairy liquid)  and a couple of huge courgettes.  Runner beans did not like the heat.

Our grass was totally brown there was not one hint of green anyway.  Next door dug theirs up and reseeded it.  We left ours and within a few weeds it was green again.

Looks like this will be the year of the Mulch.

Love that.

When I had a lawn it was green with weeds, too.

Actually the drought killed off all the weeds and only the grass survived, so it was weed free from a while.

Thanks for replies.
We are allowed to fill our water butts however many we have, but not use the hose to directly water crops.
