Allotments 4 All

Hi this may be a really stupid question but Ive never grown leeks before.....we have had a few days of warm dry weather & I was wondering if I should still be watering the leeks now that they are fully grown & are just waiting in the ground until I need them? 

Well, they are quite deep rooted so they can still find some water but yes I would water them if the ground seems dry.

I have never watered my leeks since 2-3 weeks after puddling them in back in June.

I should have said Ive planted them out in raised beds that are about a foot in depth. The soil is fresh compost ontop of clay. I guess the only way I will know for sure is to see how they go without water & check on them regularly x jane

Our soil is clay based and I put mine into the ground... like KT I only water when we put them in ... and I think once or twice since. In a raised bed they might take more watering to get established... but should be into the soil by now..   :-[

Thanks saddad yes they are quite hard to get out so I guess they must be well into the soil. I will just keep an eye on them & water if they look sorry for themselves ;) x jane

If one does water, that water has to go down 6-10"

Think how much water you need to do that?
