My first attempt at growing spuds...  ;D  Estima and Desiree.. planted mid to end April... all foilage died off so dug them up today..  65kg from 5 rows about 3 mt long.. Put in Manure as I was ignorant on the growing of spuds... they had lots of foilage and think I could have had more spuds had I planted earlier..
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... (over 10 ton per acre)    2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..      see my web blog at...  http://www.gavinconway.net

Putting in manure is the right thing to do with potatoes, you will be surpised how many you have missed that will grow nest year.

It's best to search out every stray potato you can as they lurk in the soil carrying disease, especially if you are unable to rotate crops very much.

Thanks for the kind words...  a few forked and some slug holes but generally a great few bags of spuds..

I really meant to say that the manure was fresh horse so not the proper thing to do.. anyway it will do the crop of onions a good deal next season.  I dug really well but suppose still did miss a few.. ill just pull up soil and grow them on next year and have a few spuds in the onions!! It's not Chelsea is it  ;D

I am amazed at how easy spuds are... maybe beginners luck but really all it takes is a bit manual to dig, plant, ridge and dig up again... I am so pleased..  I had a 2 acre veg "patch" back in Zimbabwe and never grew them... people always used to say they were blighters to grow... excuse the pun!!

I also dug some from my rooftop tubs... no, I mean emptied out and had some real beauties.. Now I have another small gardenshare with a few more plants not visited for a week or so and will dig them soon..  Will keep you posted..
