Does anybody know what makes tomatoes mature dull  and dark pinky instead of red and shiny?  Growing some Shirley (only because kind brother bought me 2 grafted plants ::)) and some of the fruits are strangely 'matt' finish and  deep pink on the same plant as the more normal red and shiny.  :-\

Hello I don't have the answer but the same thing is happening on my Shirley plants. I had assumed that I had left them on the plant too long.

I was about to ask the same question.

Very unattractive when dull.

I find they look shiny when fully ripe and dull when not quite ready.

I was wondering about a similar-sounding problem with my nova tomatoes. a couple of branches on each plant have fruit which don't grow to the proper size and are matt not shiny. But they do ripen and taste fine.

It might be something unconnected, as it sounds like your fruit are full-size?

Seems like plenty of us have a problem but nobody has the answer!  :-\
