Unwashed

I got stung ta work last week strimming - didn't know I'd hit a wasp nest until the beggers were all over me - ouch!

So now I'm seeing wasps everywhere, particularly all over the allotment.  I'm pretty sure there's a nest at the end of my plot in the hedge and I suspect there are several other nests close by too.  Hateful things.

Is it a plague year for them or something?

I got stung badly last year disturbing a ground nest. Straight onto the council and they sent someone round immediately to deal with it.

In our area I don't find any more wasps than normally..I've been called for 'wasp clearing duties' only couple of times this summer.
But what we have loads and loads this year is hoverflies...they are eeevvvry where..millions of them..never seen them in such a quantity..good though.. ;D

I thought hoverflies were good to have around  because they eat up all the nasty bugs. We have loads this year too. busy_lizzie

There are a lot of wasps around this year, but with an average of around 1000 nests per square mile, they're never far away. I've got two on my plot that I'm aware of.
