Unless I've missed it, there has not been a single word on here about the horrific events in Norway. I wonder why? Is it just that it's beyond words?

I was wondering the same, it is just too dreadful, my heart goes out to all concerned.

Perhaps because most involved are barely more than children?  I've been struck by how extraordinarily articulate, composed and dignified the young victims that have spoken of their ordeal are.

What happened in Norway was close to home and supposed stunned many..
As for Amy..it didn't really come that much of as surprise..so its easy to talk about.

I was stunned.  I'd just started to hear about it when my brother turned up and I asked him what on earth had gone on in Norway and he just replied, 'a massacre'  :(

I can't put into words my thoughts on Anders Behring Breivik simply because he masterminded his 'plan' for such a long time and in such detail. I just don't know what to say.

Those poor children and their families.  Such unimaginable horror.  Hearing what their teachers and volunteers were shouting at them.  Yesterday I read the transcript of text messages going back and forth between one girl and her mum and it made me cry.  How terrifying for them all.

The volunteers in their boats were fantastic though.  One man kept going back again to pick up more and more children.  He said he'd rescued at least twenty before the police told him to stop for his own safety.

I cannot understand what motivates anyone to do anything like this.

Apart from the sheer horror of what he has done, I just do not understand how it furthers his deranged beliefs.

The effect in any case I have seen seems to be to bring together everyone in a surge of love and compassion which is totally the opposite of the supposed aim of the perpetrator.

It was all to distressing to talk about so dreadfully sad, so many young people .
What posses someone to do such a wicked thing , now they are saying he is insane how could he be to plan something so horrendous.

My heart goes out to each & every family who were affected.

I came home to a message on the answering machine from my son (who works in Oslo):" just to let you know we are OK, and everyone we know is too".

That was the first I heard about it.

The Norwegian response, promising even more democracy, is very typical.

Thank goodness you did not know Anne, how worried you would have been.

So sickening to hear this story. So sad for them all.

The Norwegians are taking it with characteristic good sense and high moral ground. Extremist elements are so easily built, we must take care to always be on the side of democracy, tolerance and brotherhood.
People become extremists when they are alienated, whether they are Islamic, Christian, Jewish, left wing, right wing,. whatever. "Love thy neighbour" actually means, get to know him, get to know each other, respect and live with each other for the common good.

For such a peace loving country, they have lived through a terrible ordeal. But good will prevail, I am certain.
