I'm curious why people password protect their gallery here.  The images still pop up in the Random Image box but if you want a closer look or to see who took it, you can't.  So people are posting pics in the gallery for their own viewing only?

i thought it was a little odd too!!! why put them on if you don't want others to see them? :-\

Can you not still link to the image in a post if the gallery is private?
I don't know why you would want to do that but maybe you might want to hide some of the other pics....

I don't think you'd be able to see the image if it was linked in a post.  Maybe someone with pictures in a gallery could test it out.

I have just tried it, and you can link to the images.

If you get the URL of the random image, and then just remove the 'thumb_', you will have a link to the original image, which you can view even if the gallery has a password.

Hmmm.  I added an image in a gallery as Ceres and password protected the gallery.  When I click on the link above logged in as Ceres, I can see the image.  When I log out and log in with a test account I use for helping people with account problems I can no longer see the image.  Not really desperate to see any images, was just hoping that any folks that have password protected their galleries would tell us why.

When I click on your link I'm asked for the password.

I cannot even work the gallery to get my own pics in ;D

I meant using the bb code - the above pic is from my private gallery...

perhaps some peoples plots are not as neat and tidy as they say they are ?

Loads of people have internet links and computer facilities which they do not have much of a clue about and are just precessing what they have with what they know.

Probably been to special computer lessons somewhere (for those who went to school before calculators were invented) where the teacher has limited knowledge too and over emphasised the need for security.

Start worrying when teenager hackers or an expert with a learning/social interaction problems starts using the site for fun. They will run rings round you.

Just enjoy being able to manage the site as it is.
