I bought a lovely pot in Sainsbury's yesterday (in the sale of course). It's quite tall and I don't want to waste compost by filling it when I don't need that depth for the flowers I plan to put in it. In the past I've used polystyrene in the bottom but I haven't got any- is there anything else I could use? I was thinking bubble wrap?

Stones, rubble, scrunch up cardboard or maybe smaller plant pot turned upside down?

Empty plastic milk bottles or pop bottles, with their caps on so they don't squash down too much.

Upside down plastic plant pots or plant trays (cut them up) that are often left outside nurseries to take away.

Scrunched up chicken wire covered with plastic to stop the compost falling through.

Upside down empty tins.

Any amount of bits and bobs from skips.

Hey this could be a new party game - your turn.

We break up polysyrene to fill the bottoms of our pots.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"
