I've used Picasa for 4 years without a problem. Yesterday I uploaded some photos and found the majority of albums gone!! I can't find them anywhere. They were certainly all ok last weekend. No-one else does this on this computer. Also, the ones I uploaded were no longer there today and I've had to do it again.
Can anyone help please?

I don't know anything about picassa, but can you find the pictures by doing a search in windows explorer?
It may simply have lost the connection to them.

Another thing to try would be chkdsk (check disk), click on start, all programs, accessories, command prompt and then type chkdsk c: /f   press enter and follow the instructions. This will check any errors on your disk and correct them. It may need to restart your computer to complete it.

It says I do not have enough privileges to access this dtw.  :o Haven't got a clue what that means....BUT I have found them!!! they are in Windows live photo gallery. I am sooooo happy. Thankyou very much, a thousand blessings on your veggies.
Please can you tell me if I can copy them back again and how to mend the connection?

Lesson learned for me macmac, back them up.

Picasa only indexes photo files in their own directories.

Have you checked the bin..... ( if you search for *.jpg files in windows explorer it will show a location for all your photos )

The thing to remember about picasa and Windows Photo Gallery is that your pics are not in them - the programs (as Larkshall  says) just look on the computer and indexes and records where the photos are.  The actual images are probably in your user folder - "My Pictures" or somewhere similar..

So I expect picasa was no longer looking in all the right directories!

Some are in 'My Pictures' but by no means all. I don't know why. When transferring the pics from a memory card I get the options box come up which asks what I want to do with them. I always chose picasa. From now on I'll use Windows I think, and abandon Picasa since it seems to have a mind of it's own.
