There are too many results to do a search on here so i thought i would ask.

Do you have better results from internet sites like Suttons or are B&Q seed potatoes just as good?

I had an experience with DT Brown when they took a couple of months to deliver my spuds, blaming the problem on their supplier. Since then, I've got them from local sources, plus, this year, swaps. I've had no problems with the results.

I always get mine from the potato fairs http://www.potatoday.org/potatodays.htm

Lots of variety and all well cared for and selected.  Other than that I would go for an online store as you they may have been on the shelf for a while in rather warm conditions.  Probably doesnt make much difference in the end really..
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

My advice is to always get them from a shop as the P&P charged by the mail order/internet places is more than the cost of the spuds! Plus, in the shop you can select a bag with no damaged seeds in.

Mind you, you do get more choice of varieties online.

JBA seed potatoes adn Alan ROman both have a good rep online. Several of us at work got together and bought through AR this year and we're happy with what we got.... even with the postage worked out about half what we'd have paid for them locally.... did get some from a big potato event and it's nice seeing all the varieties, but just too tempting..... I've got about ten varieties I'm growing 2 or 3 plants of this year plus uome sensible one or two rows ones....

Thanks for the info.

I think Suttons and T&M have free postage this weekend, so i might get them from there.
I had a look in one of my local stores today but they were so small, about the same size as a 10p coin.

I bought locally and online with Alan Roman and the Alan Roman spuds look so much better and less battered than the ones in the store. Can't tell you yet what difference that might make but they were'nt that much more expensive with P&P

if your not in a blight area then local suppliers give you more for your money of most varieties.
We on the other hand are in a blight area, and therefore buy sarpo varieties, of which i havn`t seen on local shelves, and so i always buy from TMorgan, withought any complaints whatsoever to them.
Last season was very wet,and blight attacked my fellow gardeners potato crops,- i grew sarpo mira for good chips - the crop was virtually un-touched by blight,or slugs etc, etc', and the crops were huge.
I have just put the same variety in again this year (sarpo mira),as we were very pleased last season.

                      regards. ;)

I'm looking to order some seed potatoes to have a (no doubt ill fated!) bash at growing my own veg this year - is there a general concencus where's best to order them from online?

I see that JBA Seed Potatoes and Alan Romans/ are both mentioned on here, are they as good a place to start as any?

Thanks folks,

JM

I* was very happy with what we had fromn Al;an Romans last year, this year I was lucky to have a potato day 400 yuards from my house, so most came from there plus the inevitible swaps.... But if I didn't have the potato day on the doorstep it would have been AR again....

I am very pleased with my seed pots. from JBL.   Lots of choice and I was  able to sort out what I wanted on a cold winters evening.  Also delivered to my door which was better than going round stores but I have heard of some good results from Wilkos..

yes JBA and Alan Romans have a good reputation, I've used them both before and find they are good price wise, the varietes they stock, delivery etc.
On the other hand T&M are being a pain in the **** when it comes to delivery of the last of my spuds ! Don't think I'll use them again
