Allotments 4 All

Hi everyone.  I found half an egg shell in the garden yesterday and I have no idea what might have hatched from it.  To my mind it was larger than your average garden bird so I wondered if you have any ideas.  The shell was pure white and thicker than a chicken's egg.  Had it been intact I'd estimate that it would have been between 6 and 7cms in length and similar in circumference.  Any ideas?

Well, that did cross my mind as we have a mating pair who have lived in these parts for a number of years.  But as I've never seen their nest I have no idea how big their eggs are.  Thanks.  :)

Their eggs are about half the size of hens eggs and the last one I saw on my back yard was white.

Feral and wood pigeon eggs are all white and normally about 4 cm long, the latter's being slightly bigger and rounder.

In that case mine must be very well fed.  But I knew that!   ;D
