After a second attempt with a bigger digger    I have got the tree stumps out  :) :) :) :) but not soon enough to join the spud challenge on time  :'(  mine are still on the windowsill.

I don't think frosted tops in spring matter; the roots are unaffected, and the plant very soon recovers.

not a sausage, but I did plant my one spud very deep for protection and what with the scorching days and rather chilly nights what's a spud to do  ;D
