I have always cooked beetroot in the steamer since my pressure cooker died. I know that you can cook it in the microwave but don't quite know how. To be honest I am still a wee bit scared of the monster even though I have had it for years ;D
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Oh its easy to cook in the microwave. I just use a dish with a cover.  I actually use a microwave steamer dish.  I wash a couple of beetroot, add it to the dish add about 2-3 inches of water, recover, and cook on high for about 8 -10 mins. Peel once cool.
You would have to adjust the timings and the water according to the size and quantity of beetroot.
I prefer this method for small amounts of beetroot.

That was funny saddad!! ;D

Scrub whole beets gently to remove dirt without peeling off the skin or it will bleed.

To microwave whole beets, pierce the skin and place one pound in a micro-proof dish with 2 Tablespoons of water. Cook on high for 9 to 12 minutes. Let rest for 5 minutes before cooling and peeling.

Microwaves are perfect for small quantities.

If you are cooking huge volumes then an oven or big pan will work out more economical.

The best example is jacket potatoes.

One medium potato will take about six minutes in a microwave. But to cook in a conventional oven any amount of potatoes from one to as many as will fit in will take between 45 mins and an hour.

Don't forget that whilst you are cooking that bit of beetrood in a conventional oven you could also be baking:-  cakes, cookies, pies, Bread, Pizza or roasting meat or veg.

Also having the oven on helps to keep the kitchen warm

It is all down to organisation.
