Allotments 4 All

I have just noticed that nearly all the foliage on my normally evergreen privet has turned brown. The only green bits are nearest the house. I presume this is due to the frost. It has never happened before and we've been here 24 years. Do you think it will recover?

Yes it will recover.Mine does this every year.

Sadly privet is indestructible (almost!) we had it in the Pennines and even in 86 when the temp was minus 4c (average) for the whole month... the privet is still there!  :-X

Most of the privet near us & including ours is the same. It recovered last year & we
went to -18

I have a Griselinia that's gone the same way, browned leaves - do hope it pulls through.

If you dig it up, and take it to the local greenwaste centre, that works. B******y hard work though!

It'll recover. When I was in Cornwall, we had a self-sown privet in what was supposed to be a lawn. After several years, I gave in and weedkillered it. It still took ages to finally kill it.

Privet makes a fantastic place for sparrows  to hide in and its great to hear them squabling away! :)

It's only a small hedge at the front of the house but I'd just rather not have to replace it!
