I have created two borders one metre (3.29 ft) wide by 18.4 metres (60.5 ft) either side of my allotment which I intend to use for flowers and fruit.

I would like to have flowers all the year round, can some one suggest suitable candidates ?

I would like to have cut flowers too.

Cut flowers I like to grow (for summertime): sweet peas, cosmos, rudbekia, snapdragons, nicotiana, sweet william, sunflowers, scabious; for dried flowers: statice, helichrysum, xeranthemum.
Happy growing!

There are some lovely scented shrubs about at this time of year - Lonicera x purpussi, Hamamelis, Viburnum tinus, Viburnum farreri, Daphne loads to choose from. They look beautiful, give permanent structure and the scents are x :) Go on dare to be different and plant a few shrubs!

For winter colour you have the bulbs providing early colour.....winter aconites, snowdrops and snowflakes, crocus, narcisus etc.  Then what about heathers (erica) for some low growing ground cover and colour.  For something larger, Witch Hazels (Hamamelis) coming in yellows through to reddish and mahonias with those lovely yellow flowers and a scent to die for!  Some fruit trees flower early, so you have the benefit of the cherrys for example after the gorgeous blossom, and don't forget some plants have wonderful seed heads like the grasses, teasles, globe artichokes and cardoons............
