This plant has appeared in my pumpkin patch.  Does anyone know what it is?
The flower spikes are softish, not prickly.

Does it stick on  your clothes if picked, looks a bit like burdock.

That would be my guess too Betty... if I'm down in August I could give a positive ID  :)

Thanks both  :)

I've Googled Burdock and it does look the same. I don't know if it sticks to clothes, haven't tried that.  Another plotholder wanted to use it in a flower arrangement so I thought I'd better find out what it was first.

If it hasn't been swamped by the pumpkin I'd love you to have a look at it Saddad, thanks.

Perhaps once you have a positive ID you can make some dandelion and burdock cordial.  My guess is that in a battle between a burdock and a pumpkin, the burdock will win.

We used to call these 'sticky buds' and had great battles with the dried flower heads.  If you look carefully you will see the hooks on the end of each stem.  It acts like velcro and sticks to anything material (or the cat and dog  :D)Happy days.  Used to come home from playing covered in them much to Mum's annoyance.
Take time to stop and smell the flowers.

We used to do that as well.  We also liked to creep up on people and stick them on without them noticing.  My grandmother was a great sport she always pretended that she had not noticed.

Burdock, no question.  The toughest annual, nothing will strim through it.
