On return from holidays (only one week but still) my peas and mangetout had gone over. Do I really have to wait till sept to sow any again (as the seed packets say) or is it worth sowing some now and nurturing them?

calendula

the september sowings for peas are meant for an early harvest next year (if the mice don't get them) I would say its too late now to sow as they don't like the summer heat for germinating but you could experiment

and cook your others, Hugh F W made soup stock out of cooked, blitzed pea pods, strained it and added peas and pea shoots, we did the stock and added peas, garlic, carrots and onions, lovely pea soup  ;D

artichoke

I germinate the peas at home (damp cloth in plastic box) then sow them into a soggy trench, and keep watering. So far, growing well. I have done a new set about once a fortnight since early spring. Go for it.
