For the first time this year I thought I'd try some tomatoes in the conservatory.  Two of them are about a metre tall and have flowers and the other one is about half that size.  The two tall ones are wilting badly.  OH says it's because it's too hot in the conservatory- obviously we can't leave windows open when we're out- and the bigger ones are showing the most distress because they have more leaf coverage to lose water from.  We have now put all three in a sheltered spot ouside in the hope of reviving them.  Have we done the right thing?  I suppose we thought the conservatory would be a bit like a greenhouse, but it's not when it can't be ventilated!

??

1. Where does the conservatory face? Is it shaded?

2. What size pots/bags are the toms in?

3. How much water have they been having through the hot spell - like 2 litres/day?

4. Remember that most varieties would be happy outdoors at this time.

Lack of water is usually the main cause of  wilt in  hot dry conditions so how much have you been giving them.
As Tim asks what size containers have you got them in and is there sufficient drainage allowing the roots to breath and not clog.

Check the stem at soil level!

Hopefully you do not have 'neck rot'

very hot conservarory, facing south, and probably not getting enough water!  They're in 10" pots  They're now looking much happier outside!  Lesson learnt!
