Allotments 4 All

I heard Bob Flowerdew saying that peppers, both sweet and hot, like hot tops but cool roots.  He advised double potting or protecting the pots with cardboard.  I've never found the need for this and I grow my chillies on a south facing window cill with pots and plants in full sun most of the time.  Would I get better results if I did as he suggests ???
