Which dustbin would you put an empty Roundup bottle into, recycle or general rubbish?

General rubbish personally.... not that I have any empty round-up bottles,,  :-X

Good question.  See this from the Health and Safety Executive.

In summary, if the bottle says it's safe to put in the bin then you can put it in the bin, otherwise take it to the municipal tip and ask them to dispose of it as hazardous waste - all local councils have to make arrangements for disposing of hazardous household waste.

This video, presumably from Monsanto, says to wash out the bottle (but don't pour anything down the sink) and then put the bottle in the bin.  But it also says that roundup degrades into harmless products after 30 days in the soil and I think that's a lie so I don't know if it's reasonable to believe anything else they tell you.

What if I rinsed it out with a water/soil combo ?

Just because you think it is a lie, it does not mean it really is one

I suppose you have been reading some hysterical report from an eco warrior reporter. I would rather base my beliefs on my experience with using the stuff and the training that I was given to make me a bit more qualified to give an opinion than a lot of scaremongers.

Fill the bottle with earth or sand and it is automatically rendered safe. The same as if you should be daft enough to drink some, just eat a handful of soil.

Trust me, I'm certificated  ;)

What does it say to do on the bottle?  The video says to rinse out with water and just put in the bin, and then rinse water you pour on waste ground, but if it doesn't actually say to do that on the packaging then you're obliged to ask your council to dispose of it as household hazardous waste, and they'll tell you where to take it.

Get yourself a new clean bottle, rinse out round up bottle to remove all residues of roundup(recycle bottle) continue process  whilst using diluted round up as a weedkiller. eventually you may be left with water residues which have  homeopathic tendencies and remembers their weed killing history. sorry about that,  i really must change my chat name.

Generally anything which has held chemicals should be washed three times to render it safe. Waste can be sprayed onto waste ground or used as a weak weedkiller.

Other thing to bear in mind is whether you've checked what kind of plastic it is. Not all councils collect all plastics for recycling. Sorry if you've already thought of that!
