I'm posting this here as the Landshare website is under maintenance.

We are looking for volunteers to help us design, construct and maintain a wildlife area on the allotment site in Isleworth.  The area was formerly a plot but has been covered in brambles for as long as anyone can remember.  The community payback team have cleared the site, so that the hard work can begin....

If you are interested and would like to get involved, please PM me.

Did they clear it in the bird nesting season?

what is the law now on hedge cutting. We were told years ago not to cut from April until September. But now the council come round all through the summer and cut back with there tractor and hedge cutter.

It's an offence under S.1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act to intentionally damage a nest while it is being built or in use.  RSPB advice is that nesting starts in March though it can start earlier, but prosecutions are unusual and many council's just don't give a toss.  Ideally you'll leave hedges and scrub alone from the end of February to the start of September because it's very difficult to be sure that there are no nests being built.
