Mortality

I won a Windowgrow (from Greenhouse Sensations) and some Lettuce Red Salad Bowl seeds for joining the Garden Organic One Plot Pledge. :D

Included with the Windowgrow are two bottles of liquid, Solution A and B.

Solution A (250ml) contains:
Nitrogen as N, Potassium as K2O, Calcium Ca

Solution B (250ml) contains:
Nitrogen as N, Phosphorous, Potassium as K2O, Magnesium as Mg, Iron*Magnese*Boron, Copper*, Molybdenum and Zinc.

The instructions say add 6ml of A and B to 1 litre of water, but they dont say what plants are suitable to use this stuff on.

Help would be most appreciated.  ;D

As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

There seems to be some information missing??

At first glance I would say they are a general balanced fertilser, one with trace elements and the other with none.

Solution A (250ml) contains:
Nitrogen as N, Potassium as K2O, Calcium Ca

There should be another number or % next to N P & K
similarly with the other type.

This link might clarify what I am getting at;

Baccy Man

Their website suggests it is just a multipurpose fertiliser & the kit is aimed primarily at salad crops.

In the 'what will I receive' bit of the description they say you get free support by phone or email so you could always ask them.

If I remember my O-level chemistry right, I think it extraordinarily unlikely that the bottle contains nascent Nitrogen gas, Potassium oxide, and Calcium metal.  More likely is:

Nitrogen as NO3-, Potassium as K+, and Calcium as Ca2+

Thank you, everyone.

So is it alright to feed to tomatoes too or is there something better I could use?

There are better products about!...e.g. high potash feeds!

It would do initially but it won't be much good when the fruit sets, it may just create a more leaf than fruit situation!

To my mind it is just a general fertiliser to be used for anything up to to fruiting stage but after that you want better.

As baccyman says put it on the salad crops they sent you, or any other salad crop you plan on growing!

the 2-part fertilizers sent are suitable for vegetative growth, which is all you need for lettuce.  6ml of Part A + 6ml of Part B per litre is probably max dose rate. you can use a weaker mix (say 4ml A + 4ml B) for weeks 1 - 3 .
For Tomatoes I would suggest that this fertiliser is fine until the first truss of flowers has set, then swap to a higher Potash Tomato fertilizer. ;)
You couldn't make it up!

And dont forget a good calcium feed to avoid blossom end rot.
Nothing is ever as it seems. With appropriate equations I can prove this.

GARDENINGANGEL EMMA

Hi Mortality, it's Emma from Greenhouse Sensation here. Sorry to hear that we have caused confusion, certainly not our intention and we will be asking our horticulturalists to take a look at the instructions and labelling.

The nutrients are a balanced feed and have been used by us for 30 years.
They were developed by our team of horticulturalists, they use this feed for all our plants in our demonstration greenhouse.
Using this feed our Gardening Angels grew the world's longest tomato plant a few years ago and every year they grow very healthy chillies, tomatoes, bananas, papaya etc.
Last year our Quadgrow (which uses the same watering method and nutrients as the Windowgrow, but is bigger) produced 7.9 kgs of tomatoes.

I can confirm that you can use the nutrients for all plants. You don't need to add any other feed and you certainly won't suffer blossom end rot as this is usually caused by a calcium inbalance due to erratic watering, the Windowgrow will keep your plants perfectly watered at all times.

Please do call or email us if you have any questions.

Best wishes
Emma
