It was pigeons that walloped my peas last year; if it wasn't for them, they might have been strong enough to survive the flood in good condition. I found I could scare them off with nets, even though I couldn't make them bird proof.

Thanks Robert -will use wigwams then otherwise they will be taking a lot of room up!

Just to clarify:  Alderman aka Tall Telephone is a different variety to Telephone.  However both are tall.

I have no will power, my Purple podded pea - Desiree and Golden sweet just arrived this morning.  from http://www.plantsofdistinction.co.uk/

My 'normal' peas 'Onward' are growing nicely too.

Looks like my first year growing stuff is going to be colourful  ;D especially when you add in the Painted Mountain corn.   :P

Coming along nicely, I am amazed at the difference between the plants (Purple podded and Golden Sweet), planted on the same day.
Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

d**n! Now I have had to add the yellow peas to my purple podded, telephone and champion. I do love tall peas :D
