It reminds me of my Grandma's cake cover to keep flies off the food  lol

They sell them on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/40cm-FOOD-COVER-UMBRELLA-BBQ-HYGIENE-FLY-NET-CAKE-PARTY_W0QQitemZ160345023937QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_HomeGarden_Kitchen_FoodStorage_GL?hash=item25554ee5c1#ht_3295wt_991

THATS where i've seen them before! i saw this thread and thought that they looked familiar!

I use cake covers to protect to later sown green seedlings from the little fly (scarid) if I remember rightly
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Cake covers wouldn't cover the cabbages I'm trying to grow. The ones for the lotte are 2mtsx2mts and fingers crossed, will be full of one cabbage.
Saddad you can come and have a nosy any time.

These are the cake covers I made for the lotte today complete with Stan the scarecrow the Mrs made.

I like the look of them.  Things are a bit windy here and the normal things blow over, this design looks very strong and rather attractive.  I could do with some to cover my PSB which has blown over and so is not very tall any more.

Amazingrotavator(Derby)

It took less than an hour to make.Just got to get the bits first.

rog_pete

sorry to sound thick but

what have you made it out of and how?  I feel like an idiots guide to DIY covers coming on here

thanks

Hi rog_pete, Ok I'll try. First of all make a frame for the base(I used tiling lathes 2"x 1"). Cut a piece for each corner to strengthen them and keep them at 90degrees.My base was 6'x6' as I'm hoping my cabbage will be that big. Decide the height you want(mine just under 3').Cut water pipe to the length and screw to the frame. I then painted mine and let dry.Time for the debri netting.Cut the net about 2' bigger than the frame as you don't want to stretch it too much. Stand the frame up on end on the net and staple to the inside of the frame.Stand the frame on the opposite side that you have just stapled, stretch the netover the frame and staple.Do this with the other two sides.Don't forget to scew the two pipes together where they meet in the middle or else they slide about,do this before netting,(I forgot to put that). I hope this helps. It is so simple to show than explain.Just keep looking back at the first picture and it will become a bit more plain.

Just thought I would show you the cabbage I planted in it's new home on the lotte under the netting. I'm hoping it will fill it. ;D ;D ;D

They look really good and might have a go at making one.  How do you stop it from blowing away though?  I suppose the wooden frame is heavy but then my plots are in a very windy spot.  I suppose I could always put legs on it that go into the ground.

Flipping brilliant!

Do you get shed loads of debris netting or can you buy just sensible amounts?
