It had got a tad warmer,in a desperate attempt to cut down on my electric bill I knocked one of our heaters off.

Now I am freezing .Think I will leave the country when the electric bill comes  ;D

Electric and gas bills both arrived yesterday...I am having a breakdown. It sort of flurried yesterday but didn't settle. Got back from school run with frozen ears-it's freezing out there so maybe today.... :(
Don't throw paper away. There is no away.

And this from a friend in Washington!!

Snowy white table cloth. Knee deep snow and lost electricity and heat for a day and a half.
cooked over fireplace which was kind of fun and heated wash water there, felt like a pioneer except when reading by flashlight. State of emergency and not allowed on roads. Many tree limbs down which will look a bit tattered when Spring arrives. More snow predicted next Wed. said the weatherman rather quietly and looking guilty!

Glad we have not got that.  No heating no joke.  Good thing you have a fireplace.

^^ Me too Digeroo but my son said according to the weather forecast yesterday, the bitter temperatures are heading our way from the USA!  Not the snow, just the cold  :o

GA, I feel for you (and anybody else) who loses their power for any length of time.  We've had two power cuts in the past couple of months and it's amazing just how fast the temperature indoors plummets!

We got off very lightly this time as far as electrical outages can go.

We took turns getting up during the night to stoke the fireplace. It was interesting how much time is eaten up when one has to rely on a fireplace for cooking, washing and heating. REally gave me a better appreciation for my early ancestors. Maybe it should be a school requirement!

I'll second that GrannAnnie, your suggestion for a school requirement.

We were without gas,  hot water, heating and cooking facilities for 5 days, I shudder now everytime I see the National Grid vans.  What an un-organised company they are, Sinbad in polite mode that is.
