Allotments 4 All

hi all!
i got my lottie last august / sept time.
managed to clear the waist high nightmare and then went and got myself sick!
just my luck!
so am off this weekend to start my digging over!
cant wait!!
i have big sheets to cover the bits i cant dig yet.
and some glyphosphate stuff to spray just before i cover it over!
im really looking forward to it but have to admit that i do feel less than worthy as a lot of the other lottie holders nearby all know what theyre doing and everyone has an opinion.
im thankful for their help but i gotta make my own way.
just know im gonna get some raised eyebrows when i water my phosphate on! just as i did when i used a petrol strimmer to clear my way originally!
i even have a box of seeds that my mother in law nought me for xmas!!
will let you know how my weekend goes - if im not alseep on the sofa knackered! lol

There must be NO wind & you should keep the jet as close to the ground as possible.

I took over the adjacent half plot last April.. this was 25% fruit bushes if you could find them amongst couch grass.

The soil is heavy clay but when worked produced some excellent produce on the sections cultivated last year.

Until two seasons ago I hadn't grown a vegetable in my life the main reason I ended up with an allotment was the 'Governor' wouldn't let me loose in the garden at home.. what's hers is hers etc.

Needless to say it was the best thing I have done for years.

The couch grass I have treated with Glyphosate twice with a two/three week interlude between dressings..this has worked well for me.

The clay was dealt with by a dressing of 'Claybreak' (Gypsum).. this has worked wonders

General rule of thumb on our plot is two thirds gardening one third socialising....is this the norm?  ;)

Don't dismiss advice out of hand - from someone with experience of the site it can prove useful but if it's not to your liking just smile, make interested noises say "that's good to know" and then do what you feel comfortable with yourself!

Derek, you are so right - the social aspect is very important - makes life on the lottie really enjoyable if you have good relations with your neighbours - don't have to agree all the time or be buddy buddy but conversation and an exchange of opinions is great! :D

thanks for the advice.
i am grateful that people want to help me - i guess its just that it does kinda make me feel like if i dont do it their way im gonna seem rude somehow?
all this talk of couch grass..... whats it look like?
i have some grass thats got long green blades (narrows it down a bit huh?!) and is all over my plot.
as for my chemicals.... i was gonna put it in a watering can and water it on, is this way ok?
not keen on spraying!
didnt go as id planned this weekend.
i managed to spread and pin down my sheeting where i wont be digging for a while.
then  i had to dig some holes to sink some new door posts in! the old door had blown down in the wind!
still its another skill ive learned!
