I wish I'd taken a photo of this.....

When I was in Sicily last year I saved this seed pod from a tree.

[attachment=1]

It must have been a particularly nice tree but my memory is so hopeless that I can't remember what it looked like. It would have been so easy to have taken a photo of the tree at the time.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have any idea?

I can google any suggestions and I'm (almost) sure I will recognise it.

As you can see, there are plenty of seeds if anyone would like some.

They're rather lily-like aren't they.  I can't think what tree they might be from though.

A long shot, but you might recognise the seeds, eliminating non-trees, and get some ideas to follow up?

maybe?

I just typed 'tree seed pods' in the search engine ;D
Please don't be offended by my nickname 'Mortality'
As to its history it was the name of a character I played in an online game called 'Everquest'
The character 'Mortality Rate' was a female Dark Elf Necromancer, the name seemed apt at the time and has been used alot by me over the years.

Bugloss2009

didn't think it was a carob, or an indian bean tree, and certainly not a sausage tree

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Unwashed, your lily suggestion made me think that it might be Chorisia which grows in the town but I googled it and that's not it.  But thanks.  :)

Artichoke
- thank you for the seed site link.  I've had a quick look but I will look again tomorrow when I can see the seeds in daylight.  (my eyesight is a bit peculiar)

Mortality - I know it isn't Carob because I do actually have some seeds of that one.  There is a massive tree near my husband's town and I gathered a few seeds from it in the past.
I googled mimosa and locust tree but the seed pods are wrong.
thanks for the suggestions though. :)

Hi Squash, thanks for letting me know by email that you know what your seed pod is, and I'm glad the seed site came up with the goods - but what is it????
