NO - mostly, I have never bothered, but common sense suggests that if the buds are at the top, they will sprout more freely & with better light?? = Tim

Wicker

We always seem to go by "if it aint broke don't fix it" - which in our case means standing up in egg boxes (potatoes that is!) to encourage root growth at one end I suppose but doubt if it makes much difference.  Again we set them out in the greenhouse  i.e. in the light.  Maybe the shade encourages shooting? ??? Opinions differ on this I expect ...
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.

I realize that if you set the things upright in Egg Trays as so
many people do apparently.

The shoots naturally seek the light

Just maybe as they are now chitting and this process began in the sack in the Super market
isnt it logical that it doesnt matter what angle you place the potatoe the Chit or sprout  naturally seeks the light source!!
Under its own steam so to speak.

Tim not absolutely sure about this point...   you say you dont bother.
do you mean that you personally dont use the Egg Tray Method

PS Tim Thanks for your Time very kind...M

Wicker
The Box or tray that I've set them out in is about 8/10" Deep
about 18" wideby about the same length
it sits  in between and under   two windows so theoretically it should have enough light source. From two directions.

I dont have the answers........thats why I asked

Thanks also for your input I do appreciate it very much its a great help.
