Another great haul - well done!

And what are the green ones at the back and the yellow pointy ones at the front?

the green to the back is as Saddad says sharkfin squash and the yellow pointy ones are 'Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato'.

'Blue Banana'

i received all my seeds from swaps last winter and everything seems to have grown they way they were suppose to be, although the Boston is much bigger than what i have seen in pictures online ???, maybe someone could tell me for sure if its correct.

Thanks Thrifasmom.  ;)

Can I also ask - what is the pale coloured one to the right of the butternut squash and the 3 little yellowy/orange cute little ones on the front row, too?

no problem, the pale ones to the right of the butternuts are 'Pumpkin - Snowman' and the three little orangery ones are actually two separate varieties, the one standing on its own is a winter squash called 'Celebration' and the two that are joined by one stem are slightly smaller and squat in shape and are called 'Pumpkin - Hooligan'.

thifasmom

now a quick question for you veteran squash and pumpkin growers, i believe i have enough here to last me till the summer harvest of next year (i usually buy 1 large butternut a month, so by that reckoning i have at least a good 15 months supply of squashes in store). now to ensure my harvest is used effciently which ones out of my lot should be used first and which will last the longest.

i now the butternut will last wll into the new year as i have grown and kept these before longest was till March but what about the others.

and just to list the varieties again, i have:
pumpkin - snowman
pumpkin - hooligan there is a third to be picked that is still ripening on another vine.

winter squases:-
blue banana
butternut
celebration
thelma sanders sweet potato
kabocha
boston
? onion the generic light orange one next to the brighter monster orange one, it doesn't look like any of the onion squashes i have seen in pictures ???.
sharkfin
crown prince

Thifasmom - thanks for the info
The snowman pumpkins interest me as I've just got a few seeds from MoreVeg - and I was also asking about white pumpkins on here http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/smf/index.php/topic,55469.0.html

So now I have a better idea of what to expect!

thanks Saddad,

so crown prince is another long stayer (and eventually turns orange if stored long enough, go figure).

i know you also grew sharkfin is it your first time, if not how long does it store for, I'm kinda figuring not as long as the other main winter squashes.

there are 7 in total and i have already decided to give away one, do you know any other recipes besides the popular soup, that's all I'm finding when i search online.

I managed to pick up a copy of Compleat Squash off ebay... it's got a lot of recipes in it...I've got quite a few smallish squash (the Festivals and Hunters really turned up for me this year) so I will try some out and report....

Thifasmom - I love seeing the 'Blue Banana' - we wondered why it was called that as ours is still green! I really would like to have it turn that beautiful colour but reckon that is unlikely as the weather changes. How long did it take for yours to turn from green to blue/gray? thanks

umm, let me think ::), i think it was near the end of august. i picked it in the last week of september when the stem to the squash had died off.
