Anyone read the Sun as apparently someone (maybe some on here) has grown a really big pumpkin, and Manuel is upset and doesn't believe it.  What is it about men and big pumpkins???  I have got one he gave me (two actually) the small one I could carry home and will try and make soup but the big one is too heavy.  Got to get OH to go up there with his van to collect it, hopefully tonight, but he is asleep in bed, been working hard this week (oh dear) and I am retired.  ;D ;D ;D

What is the heaviest Manuel has ever grown?  Does he buy the seeds of a giant variety, or save his own?

I will ask him tomorrow and might get home before midnight.  Think he saves his own seed.

He said 37 kilos this year (he is a bit disappointed with the size) and last year 100 lbs.  Can't work that out dont know my kilos from my pounds.  :( :(  Anyway they look quite big and the one he gave me was too heavy to carry home.

Borlotti 37kgs is 81.4lbs, and 100lbs is 45.45kgs, so I'm not surprised that he's a bit disappointed.

Thanks for working that out for me.  Some of the pumpkin plants he gave to other people on the allotment grew bigger than the ones he kept, thats life.  Going up to the allotment now, probably for another pumpkin lecture or tour.  Hope he doesn't give me any more, I can't cope, already got 4.  ;D ;D ;D. Got some hot red chillis to give him as I grew them but don't eat them.  Got a free packet of seeds from a magazine and it is quite interesting watching them grow.  Next year will only grow things I like to eat.

Those pumpkins weigh more than me......I'll stick to courgettes and butternut squash.

It might be an idea for him to buy some Atlantic Giants or Sumo next year rather than save his own seed.  Mind you, if he did grow a monster he would probably never shut up about it.  ;D
