Did it have a bulbous base? Does the top bruise orange and the gills bruise red? Does it smell of warm milk?

Sparkly

If so, it looks like shaggy parasol from my book (I am no expert though!!!)

Sparkly

But beware.....

Apparently these can be mistaken for lepiota which are poisonous. The book says ensure that no open parasol you pick is LESS that 12cm in diameter as most lepiotas, including the deadly ones, are less than 7cm and the only larger one is not poisonous.

PLEASE don't eat this on my recommendation! If you (I or someone else) gets it wrong it could be deadly!

also parasols can disagree with some people.....

i'll try to cook them tomorrow with a bit of garlic & butter ;)

Let you know that the taste like! ;) ;)

Sparkly

Just try a bit first because there is a note in my book that some people are badly affected by them even though they are not poisonous!

Yuet_Lee

it is??
thank you!
Will try abit first!

And avoid alcohol when you eat any wild mushrooms.........alcohol can induce toxicity of an otherwise edible mushroom. Though I dont understand why, better safe than sorry Yuet Lee. ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Surely you will not eat these things without being 100% sure of what they are. >:(

Yuet_Lee are you still alive ?? ???

Unwashed

Frankly I'm staggered that anyone would be stupid enough to eat a mushroom on the basis of an identification on an internet forum.  No offence.

I did say that unwashed!

I read somewhere that in France you can take your wild mushrooms to any chemist who tests them for you. It is a great idea because I am always finding them and wondering if they are safe but would never dare to try.

There are loads of fungi which are really good to eat. All you need to do is take an identification book, and make sure you know what every one is! The chances of being poisoned then become negligible.
