salt spray

hi ya would using a light salt/water mix sprayed on my sprout help to get rid of the devil caterpillar's that r squatting there. Will it damage my crop at all? Any other ideas would be warmly received  :D

I'm sure there's a recipe on here for a garlic spray, some people swear by it  :)

oh great!  that sounds like a good idea don't really want to use any chemical's, wots the point of growing your own if only to spray with aload of nasty things. May as well go to tescos for added extras :D

Hi Trudie

If you don't want to use chemicals, why use salt?  That will make the brassicas miserable if not dead.  Do you want to avoid all chemicals - naturally occuring as well as man-made?  If that is the case, then your only option is to pick the caterpillars off each plant by hand.

Salt draws fluid, so best not to use it if you don't want desicated sprouts !

The garlic water spray works to a point, you need to do it regularly especially after a period of heavy rain.

 :D Thanks for all the addvice going to try the garlic thingy. Been picking the devil's off every other day at mo. It's doing the job but taking up lots of time. Used to love butterflies when i was a little girl, but now i will never see them in the same light
